Support for the Education of Children in Care

Children in Care have a right to expect the outcomes wanted for every child and we have the strongest commitment to helping every child in our care, wherever they are placed to achieve the highest standard possible, including their aspirations to achieve in further and higher education.

Education for Children in Care

We have a team of professionals that work with children in care who are educated in Wigan.  There are 9 members in the team, including local authority officers from a range of different services and teachers from the Behavior Support Team at Cavendish Street, Leigh (see below):

  • Cath Pealing - Principal Officer for Pupil Inclusion
  • Neil Smith - Education Officer for Children in Care
  • Jessica Hitchen - Education Welfare Officer for Children in Care
  • Michelle Amberry - Children in Care Teacher (Primary)

  • Dave Pryle - Children in Care Teacher (Secondary)
  • Wendy Dickinson - Behaviour Support Assisstant for Children in Care (Primary)

Each member has specific roles and responsibilities, however the purpose of the team is to support individual pupils to achieve the highest level of attainment possible.  This is mainly school based support for the pupil, however we also work with and support schools, children's homes and foster carers.
