The Family Support Team provides a service for children "in need" in accordance with Section 17 of the 1989 Children Act. The aim of the service is to work in partnership with families to help them solve their problems and enable children to be cared for within their own family unit.
The Team provides a range of services, including:
- Advice
- Support
- Guidance
- Individual and group work
- Counselling
- Befriending Scheme
The Team is made up of a manager, 1 senior practitioner, 2 counselling co-ordinators, 1 assistant counselling co-ordinator, 15 support workers, plus administration staff. The service can only be accessed by referral from the Social Work Teams within the Borough, after an initial assessment has been undertaken.
