Westfield Children's Centre forms part of Wigan's new flagship fully extended school, Westfield Community School. The centre provides families and children with Early Education integrated with full day care, from birth. This service includes the early identification of and provision for children with special educational needs. There is also a breakfast, after school and holiday clubs.
The centre provides a number of services from other venues within the local community, these include: toddler sessions, mother and baby group, a childminding network group and pram pushes.
The centre also offers outreach services, such as Embrace Wigan and Leigh and Homestart who can provide support to families (see Services at a Glance). There is an Adult and Family Literacy course which runs from the centre, helping local families to improve their reading, writing and communication skills.
A receptionist / information assistant has been appointed and she is able to signpost parents to the support / services they require including Children's Information Services, training and Job Centre Plus.
A Children's Centre / Extended Schools Co-ordinator has also been appointed who is always keen to welcome families into the Children's Centre and ensure they are up to date with events, activities and signpost families to a variety of services.
Westfield is keen to recruit volunteers who will be involved in service development.
