Since 2000, Sure Start has been providing an increasing range of support services for children under 5 years and their families at local venues.
The opening of the new Hindley Children's Centre in April 2004 presented the opportunity to offer a variety of services from one building. The upper floor of the centre hosts a Community Cafe area where there is access to public PC's, Job Points and lots of useful information.
A wide range of good quality services and activities are also provided including health care, creche, parenting courses, play, counselling and Saturday Gardening Club. On the lower floor of the centre there is an OFSTED regsitered maintained Nursery School offering Early Education, full day care, wraparound childcare and holiday care. There is a community play area with equipment suitable for children under 5 years old which is accessible from both entrances of the building. A second outdoor play area at the rear of the building is used by the nursery only.
Volunteers have always been encouraged to be involved with the developing services. This has resulted in strong support from a group of parent volunteers aptly named the Building User Group (BUG), who have made great progress in developing the use of the centre and now developed a garden club for the wider community.
