Fostering

Fostering is a way of looking after children when they are unable to stay with their families for a variety of reasons. This may be for a shorter or longer period of time depending upon each child’s circumstances. The job of a foster carer is challenging, but also extremely rewarding and meaningful. Our carers feel that they can really change and improve the lives of children and young people.

We recruit foster carers to look after children who vary in age from babies to teenagers. Many of these children return to their own families within a few weeks or months. If this is not possible younger children who cannot return to their own families (usually up to the age of seven) may need the security of adoption, which involves having a new legal identity. Children over the age of seven and under twelve, who need to continue seeing their birth families on a regular basis, are usually matched with a foster carer who can look after them whilst still helping them to keep in touch with family.

We also employ foster carers for teenagers on a short or long term basis. Young people can remain within these families until they are eighteen, until they return home or until they move on to independence.

There is always a constant need for our service, so we are always ready to welcome new carers.
