If you wish to apply to adopt a child, please contact the Adoption Team for an information pack and 'Finding Out About Adoption' form. Alternatively, pass on your details on-line (see below). Once the Adoption Team receives your details, checks will be made to see whether or not you are known to Children and Young People's Services. You will then be visited by a social worker who specialises in adoption, and with whom you can discuss any issues.
Following the social worker's visit, you will in due course be invited to attend information groups with other prospective adopters. You will then be allocated a social worker, who will undertake a detailed assessment of your family history and your lifestyle (this involves completing a 'Form F'). The assessment report will be submitted to the Children and Young People's Services Permanence Panel, which meets monthly. If successful, your details will be passed to social workers looking for families in the Greater Manchester area.
Obviously it is easier for social workers to match a child with you if you are flexible about the age of the child or their (dis)ability. At the moment, we are particularly short of adopters for children over 5, brothers and sisters together, children with disabilities, children who require extra help at school, and children who have emotional problems and who require consistent secure and loving families.
If you would like an information pack about adoption, please contact the Family Placement Team.
If you want to be considered as an adoptive parent, please complete the
on-line visit request form.
