Why do we need a strategy?
Wigan has never had a single transport strategy for the Borough and this is needed to provide a clear framework for coordinated action.
Wigan Council is developing a new transport strategy for the Borough that will take a more strategic view of transportation matters and ensure that we look at ways to address our longer term transport issues, and how we can highlight and influence the transport challenges that we have.
The new transport strategy will ensure that the transport networks will support the significant economic development forecast to 2026. This, in turn, will support the delivery of the Local Development Framework and the Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan. The strategy will cover the full range of transport issues, including congestion, parking, cycling, walking, and public transport. The strategy will include an action plan to ensure that, in future, we can provide the Borough with an effective and efficient transport system to get people moving.
