Wigan Borough has a long and proud tradition of parades. Please be assured that Wigan Council will support events on the highway if the procedures outlined below are followed to ensure traffic management and road safety implications are fully addressed.
Application forms for planned events on the highway can be obtained by contacting the Traffic Section or by downloading the Event on the Highway application form (.pdf, 21Kb). The minimum notice for events on the highway is 3 months.

If the event is on the highway or road, the responsibility for public safety rests with the organiser.
Wigan Council will do all it can to help facilitate planned events on the highway. We will help empower and encourage communities to manage the traffic management for their walking event on the highway mainly on residential roads.
