Reporting a fault

The council's street lighting team check all the borough's lighting installations as part of a rolling programme of maintenance, but we also welcome the public's assistance in identifying concerns or faults.
Street Lighting Engineers

There are several ways for the public to contact us about street lighting faults, and also problems with defective illuminated and non-illuminated traffic signs and bollards:

Please help us by telling us exact details of the problem, including the column's identification number and accurate geographical location (such as "outside house No. 2, Smith Road, Hindley"). This detail will help us to deal with the issue efficiently.

Routine maintenance faults that have been reported are normally attended to within the following three working days. Generally, most street lamps will be working again after the first visit.

However, there can be occasions when the underground electrical supply may be faulty. Repairs in these cases can take longer to correct.  Under their General Standards of Performance, our suppliers Electricity North West have up to 25 working days to attend and repair a street lighting unit.

Similarly, if the lighting column has been damaged in a road traffic accident, we may have to work alongside other organisations and may not be able to repair the damage as quickly.
