Practical on-road training comprises 3 sessions, each lasting for half a day. They are held at centres (including schools) across the borough. These courses are offered during the school summer holidays.

Before practical instruction begins, each trainee is provided with a Safer Cycling Pack and Highway Code. This pack must be completed before practical training starts.

Children are provided with a high visibility waistcoat and a cycle helmet, if they do not have one of their own. All successful candidates will receive a certificate.

Training is free. To find out more or to book a place, contact the council's road safety team on 01942 488250

In addition, many schools have term time courses, run in conjunction with the road safety team.  Officers begin each training programme in the secure environment of the school playground. The children will only venture out onto the highway when they are ready, where they are closely supervised by road safety staff.
