In 2004 Wigan Council set up a Highways User Group (HUG) whose remit is to look at and comment on major developments, schemes and projects that affect adopted highways, public rights of way and permissive routes, and to provide an advisory service to council officers.
The HUG’s role is:
- To comment on highway, leisure and planning proposals, where appropriate.
- To work in conjunction with the Local Access Forum on the development of the Rights of Way Improvement Plan, including monitoring success and continual review.
- Represent the Group and Council as appropriate.
- Promote the activities of the Group and assist with the production of promotional material and or events.
- Explore additional funding opportunities.
The HUG meets four times a year and its membership consists of up to twenty non-council representatives from various user interest groups (currently equestrians, walkers and cyclists), Councillors and Council Officer representatives from Leisure, Planning and Rights of Way Sections. Various other sections and departments also attend.
We would welcome applications to join the HUG from individuals representing a major interest in the borough. In addition to the groups already represented the HUG could be relevant to disabled, 4x4, motorbike and ethnic minority groups amongst others. Please apply in writing to the address below giving your interest group, expertise and knowledge relevant to the role of the HUG. Applications will be approved by the Chair on the basis of the information you provide.
