The investigation of highway subsidence which can be due to shallow mine workings, unstable ground (Sandyforth Farm Open Cast Coal Site 50m deep excavation) or leaking sewers.
The approval of the design of lighting column foundations which cannot be planted in the ground to their normal depth.
Monitoring Developers and Statutory Undertakers work affecting the Council's highway structures.
Representing the Director of Engineering Services at Officers working group meetings.
Preparing and reviewing the highway structures part of the Authority’s Local Transport Plan.
Managing the design and construction of new highway structures usually as part of a highway scheme (such as the Westwood link road scheme in Wigan).
Maintaining the register of streets with engineering difficulties under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
