Waste and Recycling

Residents receive a weekly collection of waste in their black wheelie bin, and a fortnightly collection for paper and magazines.  Many properties also have garden waste collected in a green wheelie bin.  There are many other recycling services available to residents, including roadside facilities and five major household waste recycling centres.

Waste

Click the link below for information about the refuse collection services which Wigan Council provides. From these pages you will find general information about your domestic wheelie bin as well as details about hazardous waste and how to access services online such as requesting the removal of bulky household items and reporting problems.

Recycling

Recycling dramatically reduces the amount of waste going into our landfill sites. The council offers around 150 local recycling centres, and fortnightly collections of some materials from residents' homes. A new service of dry recyclables (glass, cans, plastics) is being trialled in some areas this spring.  Please follow the link below to find out more information about your nearest recycling centre, garden waste, as well as advice and ideas.

Please recycle as much as you can - there's a facility for glass, cans and other materials within a mile of most homes. Ensure your bins and bag are not overfilled and are out at the edge of your property by 7.00am on your regular collection day. Collections are one day later after a Bank Holiday Monday. Please see your calendar of collection dates for the revised timetable for Bank Holidays and Christmas.
