Reduce, re-use, recycle!
That’s the message from our waste education officer.
If you are a resident, community group, school, college or business wanting to minimise your waste, you can contact the waste education officer to arrange a visit or just to get your recycling questions answered.
Whether you are looking to reduce, reuse or recycle your waste, the officer is available to offer help and advice on all things waste and recycling from useful tips on how to reduce your waste to information about the recycling services available within Wigan borough. She is also part of a wider group within the council, the environmental education team, whose aim is to encourage people to respect their environment.
Schools
With over 130 schools in the borough, encouraging schools to reduce their waste is a high priority at the council and the waste education officer can offer support to schools about this.
Here are just some of the ways the waste education officer can support your school:
- Offer advice on getting started if you are new to waste minimisation
- Offer advice on how to carry out waste audits to identify where your waste is coming from in order to plan how waste can be reduced
- Visit your school to carry out lessons and activities with pupils about waste and recycling
- Offer information on the latest recycling news and innovations.
Reducing school waste can also help schools registered onto the eco-schools programme. The eco-school newsletter is sent out every term to all schools in the borough which includes a special section on waste and recycling.
