Bulky Household Waste

Bulky waste collections

Free standing household items, such as sofas, beds, fridges and washers, can be collected by arrangement with the team. This service must be booked in advance by completing our online bulky refuse collection form. Alternatively, you can arrange a collection by calling the helpline on 01942 404364. Please ensure the items are accessible and, if necessary, kept dry. Once you have confirmed each item, you will be given a date on which the collection will be made.

We can now collect disassembled fitted furniture. An example of what we would determine as fitted or disassembled furniture would be a disassembled wardrobe or chest of drawers. One item = a back, two sides, a top and bottom, one or two doors or up to six drawers.

Please ensure that disassembled furniture is free from protruding staples, screws, nails etc and is easy for the bulky collection crews to remove, (for example in small pieces bundled together). Please ensure that it is kept dry

Charges

First collection, up to 3 items - Free of charge. Up to 5 items can be collected this time, but there is a charge of £5 for the fourth item and a further £5 for the fifth item. Only one free collection per household per year. Second collection within a 12 month period - £75.

What if it can’t be collected as bulky waste?

Residents must make their own arrangements to dispose of the items we will not collect. If you pay someone to remove your rubbish, they must be a registered waste carrier. If they are not, the rubbish they collect from you will be your responsibility and you could be prosecuted. Find out more about Trade Waste.  Please ensure that if you want to take the bulky items to a household waste recycling centre and need to use a trailer or van, you may need to apply for a free permit in advance. Check to see if you need a permit  or contact the Environmental Services Helpline on 01942 404364 for more information
