The Kirkless Household Waste Recycling Centre (view map) (external link) in Higher Ince can accept asbestos waste by appointment only from householders. Contact the site directly on 01942 825755 and report to the weighbridge on arrival. If you are using a van or twin axled trailer, you will need to apply for a permit in advance online.
The asbestos must be kept as intact as possible and double wrapped in heavy duty plastic and sealed. Do not break it to fit it into bags. If it is dusty or likely to break, or has already been broken, it must be dampened and handled with gloves and face mask. Please be aware, the material must be in manageable pieces in order for it to be lifted into containers.
A maximum of 4 tyres can be taken to any household waste recycling centre for recycling. Tyres from any commercial vehicles are NOT accepted on the sites.
Household LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and inert gas cyclinders will be accepted at:
- Slag Lane HWRC
- Chanters HWRC
- Kirkless HWRC
Oxygen and compressed air cylinders will only be accepted at the Kirkless HWRC due to the separate storage requirements.
