Tackling Greenhouse Gases in Wigan
Government has requested that Local Authorities should lead on producing a Greenhouse Gas Report to outline how we affect climate change. Although not a requirement, it is considered best practice that councils do this. It is hoped that other organisations in the public and private sectors will begin doing the same.
Wigan Council is due to have its Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan considered by Cabinet and Scrutiny Committee. This sets out the approach Wigan will take to reduce its carbon emisisons and adapt to a changing climate. At the same time, Wigan Council has its own Carbon Management Plan which aims to reduce emissions from our own operations. Together, these form a robust approach for Wigan Council and the Borough to tackle climate change.
Wigan Council is also part of the Greater Manchester Climate Change Strategy (External link)which is developing better ways in which we can calculate our direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions. Future versions of our Greenhouse Gas Report will aim to contain this better information.
Greenhouse Gas Reporting
This report is Wigan's first Greenhouse Gas Report. It is expected to change in future years and we will post revised documents, with explanations, when they become available.
