Industrial and Commercial Noise

The activities of trade or businesses can lead to noise which may be a nuisance.

Industrial and Commercial Noise

Noise can be defined as unwanted sound, it can be a source of irritation and stress for many people. Complaints and enquiries about noise and vibration from business premises including factories, building sites and places of entertainment can be investigated. Nuisance may be caused if noise is unreasonable in terms of volume, duration or the time it occurs.

How to Complain

If you are bothered by noise from a business premises you may wish to contact the person responsible yourself and try and resolve the matter informally. If for any reason you do not want to do this you can contact us and we will investigate on your behalf. Unless the incident is extremely serious we will normally visit the person responsible and offer advice on resolving the problem. If this is unsuccessful we will undertake a formal investigation. This may include us carrying out monitoring and observations from your premises and we will ask you to keep records of how you are affected. If we are satisfied that an offence has been committed or a nuisance is established we have various legal powers to resolve the problem.

Whilst required by law to take action to resolve such complaints, we do offer a significant amount of expert advice and assistance to companies and individuals in solving what can be very complex problems.
