Trees and Woodlands

To protect and enhance both council woodlands and those in private ownership.

The council has a Woodlands Strategy aimed at protecting and enhancing the borough's wooded areas. Many improvements have been carried out, including tree planting, footpaths and fencing. Wigan is also a member of the Red Rose Forest partnership which is designed to create an urban forest across much of Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

How do I find out if a Woodland is protected ?

Contact Environmental Planning by telephone, email or visit the Environmental Services Department during office hours.

Hedgerow

If you intend to remove a hedgerow which is covered by a Hedgerow Protection Order you will need to complete a Hedgerow removal notice (.pdf, 495Kb)Guidance notes (.pdf, 98Kb) are available to help you complete your application.
