Greenheart is an extensive network of high quality landscapes and open spaces which provide an attractive countryside setting for Wigan Borough. Together these sites represent one of the region's most important environmental and recreational assets and demonstrate how an area's former industrial legacy can be transformed into a regionally significant asset.
To protect this resource, foster an understanding of key landscape issues and concerns and to maximise its potential for public use and enjoyment, advice and services are offered that relate to Wildlife, Biodiversity, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS).
There is a focus on the protection and enhancement of Trees and Woodlands along with Tree Preservation Orders. General countryside issues are dealt with including the implementation of countryside improvement projects.
