These charges may be of a financial or non financial nature. The result may assist the purchaser as to whether to proceed with the proposed purchase.
A small team of three staff receive and complete local searches on a daily basis. The council is committed to maintain the response time of returning all local searches within a maximum of ten working days. Our average return time is 2/3 working days from date of receipt. During the last financial year 100% of searches were returned within the target date. All search applications require a fee.

** Arrangements for Access to CON29R Information and details of Costings are as set out in the Price list leaflet (.pdf, 28KB). The fees have been set on a cost-recovery basis in accordance with legislation, SI 2008/Number 3248 effective 23 December 2008 and Charging Guidance issued 22 January 2009.
It is the council's statutory duty to retain records of local searches for seven years, this being the time limit should any legal action be pursued.
The local land charges register is open for public inspection in snapshot form free of charge.
Register of Common Land and Village Greens
Within the Wigan Borough there are a number of areas of land designated as Registered Common Land or Village Greens.
A register showing the extent of these areas is maintained by the Land Charges section. An Official Search of the Register of Common Land and Village Greens may be made by submitting the appropriate CON29 Optional Enquiry Form 2007 to Land Charges with the current fee of £10.00
