Funding from the Northwest Development Agency’s Single Regeneration Budget and the European Regional Development Fund is being used to develop major brown field sites for employment in the EDZ.
In support of this work, the Transport Corridor Project aims to carry out improvements to the main routes through the Economic Development Zone (EDZ), which link neighbouring residential areas to the major employment sites.
These routes are:
- A577 (west) Ormskirk Road, Victoria Street/Billinge Road (part) and Little Lane
- A49 Warrington Road, Worsley Mesnes Drive/Tyrer Avenue, Poolstock Lane
- A573 Warrington Road, A577 (east) Manchester Road, Ince Green Lane, Belle Green Lane
The improvements being undertaken focus on the following:
Buildings
Corridor Improvement Grants (.pdf, 75Kb) are available for small to medium sized businesses for external repairs to older commercial premises in disrepair.
Environment
Areas of open space along the corridor are being enhanced through landscaping and public art to make them more inviting for people living next to them and travelling along them.
Transport
In order that the major employment sites within the EDZ can be accessed by local residents, improvements are being made to the transport network for the benefit of public transport users, pedestrians and cyclists.
