One of the Environmental Services Department's most important tasks is to actively promote quality in regenerating the Built Environment.

New investment in is needed to continue the improvement in the quality of the borough's environment. We are involved in major programmes with a wide range of partners and play a leading role in physical regeneration. We encourage beneficial development in a number of ways.

The Replacement Unitary Development Plan provides businesses and developers with clear guidelines on where new development will be allowed and ensures that sufficient land is available in the right places.

The emerging Core Strategy, within the Local Development Framework, will provide the new Planning Policy framework for the borough.
