Animal Warden Service

Dog Walkers

This page highlights the services provided by the Wigan animal warden service to encourage responsible dog ownership.

The Animal Warden Service deals with over 3,000 enquiries every year. These include issues around stray dogs, fouling, advice on accidents and welfare.

The Animal Warden Service has been developed to encourage members of the public to be responsible owners and not to allow their dogs to cause offence to their neighbours and to the public at large.

You may contact the Animal Wardens if you have queries or complaints regarding:

  • Stray dogs
  • Dog fouling
  • Patrolling of problem areas
  • Displaying of "No Fouling" signs

The Animal Wardens offer help and advice on:

  • Lost dogs - a Lost Dog Register helps to re-unite many owners with their dogs
  • The provision of "poop-scoops" - usually available free from the animal warden service
  • Other "doggy" matters
  • Dangerous or Aggressive dogs

The Animal Warden Service, provided by the Council, can assist with most problems concerning animals, either directly or by putting you in contact with other agencies who may be able to help.

The Animal Wardens are available to talk to school and community groups to educate and raise awareness of responsible ownership.

Further advice available on:

  • Dog fouling
  • "Scoop the poop"
  • Dog law and you
