Wigan Council Outdoor Education Team is a long established organisation within the Children, Adults and Families Directorate. Based on twin sites at Worsley Mesnes Outdoor Education Centre and Scotmans Flash Water Activity Centre, the team provides a wide range of multi discipline activities.

Our aim is to enable people to engage in activities which normally they would not be able to access.

Our main focus is to promote safe, exciting experiences which challenge and educate.

We provide activities and courses for schools (primary and secondary), youth groups as well as adults.

The team complies with HSE requirements for delivering outdoor activities and has an AALS Licence (External link) as well as endorsements with numerous national governing body organisations.  We are a BCU (External link) and RYA (External link) approved centre and have LOTC (External link) and AAIAC (External link) ‘badges’.

All our instructors are appropriately NGB qualified, enhanced CRB cleared and have undertaken relevant safeguard training.

We deliver bespoke curriculum based activities including those that meet requirements for GCSE sports.   Additionally we deliver anything from simple one off taster sessions, specific activity programmes and large scale multi activity events taken from the list below.

The policy and Guidance is reviewed annually. All activities are risk assessed and regularly reviewed and are available to view on our Outdoor Education Team risk assessment page.
