Educational Trips and Visits. Policy, Procedure and Guidance. Introduction

Every year thousands of children and young people across the borough take part in hundreds of educational trips and visits. Most of these visits occur safely and without any problems.

To ensure visits can be made as safe as possible, the council have a policy that inform teachers, youth workers and others about what they should consider when organising a visit.

Each school within the authority has a copy. It is also posted on the council's intranet site to enable others who organise trips access it.

To support teachers and others, the council also has an Educational Visits Advisor (EVA).

The EVA has the role of ensuring the Council’s duty of care for the health & safety of children & young people while on educational trips & visits is complied with.

This is done by ensuring that teachers and others who organise and are responsible for visits follow the policy and procedures, including final endorsement of certain categories of visit; on a daily basis the EVA receives notification of visits. The information provided is checked to ensure the visit complies with policy. In addition to other responsibilities the EVA monitors visits being undertaken and provides advice, information and training to schools, youth service and others.
