We constantly trial new recipes with pupils and we get some great constructive feedback.
Our menus meet and exceed all government food-based standards and we are well on the way to implementing the September 2008 nutritional based standards some months early.
MetroFresh are conscious that we still need to provide dishes that are popular as well as nutritional, so we work closely with our front line staff to product-test and develop menus that children want.
We also operate consultation evenings with parents in school so that they can see, smell and taste the great food we can offer. Our presence at new intake evenings gives us an opportunity to talk to parents about school meals and explain why we believe they are great value at £1.85 per day.
After consultations, and taking into consideration the demographics of the borough, MetroFresh realised that one size does not fit all. Therefore, in January 2008, we introduced a choice of three menus - Menu A, B and C. Each school decided which menu fitted best with the ethos of their school. Menu A is a traditional menu, menu B includes more international dishes and menu C is an innovative menu.
Below are samples of the menus:
Out of 105 primary schools (including dining halls) we have 79 schools on menu A, 18 schools on menu B and 8 schools on menu C.
As well as our daily lunch service we also offer a number of themed events and promotions throughout the year.
