Every Building Matters

Wigan has over 150 school buildings, meeting the provision of school places for around 45,000 children. The size, type, location, design and condition of these buildings play an important role in raising education standards, ambition and achievement in all children and young people.

Each year, we produce a strategy document, “Wigan’s Strategy for School Places & Buildings”. This document sets out our goals, policies and achievements relating to the provision of school places and the management of our building stock.

We estimate that over the next 10-15 years, Wigan will receive over £200 million to invest in our school buildings. This is in addition to the existing capital schools are receiving annually to maintain and modernise their premises. The investment represents an enormous capital injection, attempting to both compensate for underinvestment in the past as well as ensure that tomorrow’s buildings will be fit for purpose for an entire generation of children.

We’ve already completed several major projects and have many more underway. We want to know what you think of our previous work and we want to hear your views on future projects. Please follow the ‘Have Your Say' link to tell us your views or write to us at the address below.
