The aims of this course are:
- To emphasise partnership working between yourselves, the Council, schools, teachers, parents, children, transport operators and each local community
- To ensure that a new culture of sustainable school travel can develop so that together we can make the school journey safer, healthier and more sustainable for all
The learning objectives are:
- To provide an opportunity to raise awareness about the initiative to encourage children in the borough to change their behaviours and attitudes and actively promote walking, cycling and public transport for journeys to and from school
- To understand the Sustainable Modes of Travel agenda with regard to school travel
- To raise awareness of the benefits and financial rewards to support and promote sustainable travel
- To gain an awareness of local support and resources that are available from different agencies
- To understand the importance of a School Travel Plan, and associated Safer Routes to Schools Programme
- To share experiences and learning from school's that have already benefited from promoting sustainable travel
