The Council provides support to pupils who may be having attendance difficulties and offers advice, via the Education Welfare Service, to parents and schools having to deal with pupils not attending school via:
- home visiting
- seeing young people in school
- monitoring systems
- in-depth groupwork with small groups of young people
If your child is ill or unable to attend school for some appropriate reason, you should contact the school to inform them. The school may then authorise this absence.
If your child has been away from school without any parental contact, the school will then contact you in order to check on the attendance. Such contact could draw your attention to the fact that your child has been missing school without a good reason. An unauthorised absence carries with it the risk of prosecution.
