If you have a child who was born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006 and you want a place at a Wigan primary school, you will need to apply for a primary school place for the 2010/11 school year.
You must register your child’s name at any Wigan authority primary school no later than the beginning of December 2009.
Information about how to apply for a Wigan school place will be sent to you during December 2009. You must complete your application form and hand it in at any Wigan Primary school no later than the closing date.
The closing date for applications is 29 January 2010.
It is important parents read the information booklet ‘Admissions to Primary Schools 2010/11’ before making an application. The booklet can be accessed using the links below.
If you want a school place in another local authority you must contact the local authority that maintains the school. Please note other local authorities may have a different application procedures and closing dates.

Voluntary Aided (Church) Schools
If any of your preferred schools is a voluntary-aided (church) school, you are strongly advised to fill in the school's own supplementary information form as well as the Wigan Council primary school application form. Applications for places at Catholic primary schools within the Archdiocese of Liverpool
The definition of "baptised Catholic" is contained in the explanatory notes section of each school's admission policy. From the start of the 2010-2011 academic year the following change is to be made to the school's admission policy and applied wherever there is a reference to "baptised Catholic" in the priority criteria:
Baptised Catholic means, within the policies and practices relating to school admissions, any child who, before the due date of application, is a baptised Catholic or who, having been baptised into another Christian denomintaion whose baptisms are recognised by the Catholic Church, has subsequenlty been formally recieved into the Catholic Church.
