The Vision Support Team support children and young people who have been identified as having a significant visual impairment that could hinder their educational progress. They may be of pre school age, attend mainstream or special schools. Wherever possible, children and young people will follow the mainstream curriculum.
On referral the team will undertake a specialist assessment of needs and then may:-
- Support for parents, children and young people in the home
- Offer advice to schools on classroom teaching strategies to support the children and young people
- Undertake environmental assessments to advise on access issues
- Provide specialist teaching for disability specific skills (e.g. learning Braille)
- Provide advice on the modification of curriculum materials for individual pupils.
