Samba!

This exciting project has been running for over four years and remains as popular as ever. The project consists of one whole day visit to school. The organisation of the day is very flexible but will consist of two sessions (am/pm). A maximum of 35 students can be accommodated in each session. Parents can be invited to attend a playthrough/performance at the end of the day. A resource pack will be left with the school to enable work to be followed up.

KS 1/2 Cost: £240 for full day (Outside/non-buyback schools £375)

Africa!

This workshop aims to explore some of the powerful and intricate rhythms of West African drumming. The focus is mainly on hand drums (Djembes, Congas and Tubanos), but bass drums (Dun-Duns), bells and shakers are also used. As this involves a certain level of technique it provides a natural progression from previous workshops. As students become more confident, this will eventually lead to a performance that encapsulates the traditional ‘multi-layered’ sound and ‘feel’ of African drumming. Like the samba workshops these sessions are great fun but also help in building confidence, teamwork, listening skills, concentration, co-ordination and knowledge of world music and different cultures.

Music And ICT ( The Popular Song)

The use of technology within the music curriculum provides significant opportunities to support and challenge pupil’s individual learning styles. This two day course is aimed at providing INSET for teachers within the context of a workshop with pupils from Key stage 3 / 4. Pupils will learn midi-sequencing techniques whilst developing their ability to improvise and compose. The first session is aimed at developing the skills associated with composing a popular song and deepens their knowledge and understanding of structure and texture in this genre. The follow up session concentrates on editing and the digital and audio recording techniques necessary for a CD recording of the songs. Laptop computers are provided, but schools may also use their own workstations.

Music Tech

Initially launched as part of ‘Music Alive’ this very popular performance project is now being offered to schools throughout the year. During the morning, two professional musicians deliver a 45 minute whole school performance, demonstrating the use of live vocals, keyboards, guitars and computers and showing the way in which a chart topping CD is created and recorded. The musicians then work for the rest of the day with an individual class on a computer aided performance project. Small groups will end the day by recording their piece on to CD. Cubase software is used extensively throughout the presentation and project. Laptop computers are provided. Access to a projection screen will be needed for the presentation.

KS 2/3 Cost: £375 for a full day (Outside/non-buyback schools £550)
