Musical Instrument Assisted Purchase Scheme

Parents of pupils who have been learning a musical instrument through Wigan Council Instrumental Teaching Provision, often wish to purchase their own instrument. The Music Service operates an Assisted Purchase Scheme which enables parents to buy an instrument without paying VAT.

The Music Service can also provide help with other aspects of the purchase.

Criteria for eligibility to the assisted purchase scheme:

  1. Your child must be receiving lessons from Wigan Instrumental Teaching Provision.
  2. Pupils must be attending a Wigan School.
  3. The instrument must be collected from The Performing Arts Centre

What to do next:

  1. If you are unsure of the make or model of instrument you wish to purchase, your child's instrumental teacher will be pleased to help. Contact can be made in person or initially through your child's Practice Diary.
  2. As soon as you know the make or model of instrument you wish to purchase contact the Music Service Office. A quote for the instrument will then be provided which you may wish to compare with other instrument suppliers. You are not under any obligation to use a supplier suggested by the Music Service.
  3. Complete the Assisted Purchase Application Form (.pdf, 12KB) and send with a cheque made payable to Wigan Council for the cost of the instrument plus admin fee to Mrs Helen Worthington.
  4. You will be contacted when your instrument is ready to be collected. Allow 7 days for delivery.
