Because every child's music matters

Wigan’s award winning Instrumental Teaching Service supports children and young people to access a wide range of creative music making opportunities in the classroom, in ensembles and through live performance.

A teaching team of over 80 instrumental specialists deliver weekly instrumental lessons to over 4500 pupils in Wigan schools and colleges. Instrumental music opportunities within the curriculum are an increasingly important feature of the service remit whilst the outstanding reputation of the authority’s ensemble provision continues to provide high quality performance opportunities for the boroughs young musicians.

Schools are supported in becoming ‘singing schools’ through the Wigan Vocal Strategy which supports the national Sing Up! Campaign and a diverse range of projects and bespoke services are available to schools and colleges.
