Early Education helps children to develop strong foundations for future learning, gives children the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities and play and ensures that children’s learning is supported by staff who understand how children develop and learn.
All 3 and 4 year old children are entitled to a free part time Early Education place. The entitlement is for 12 ½ hours per week and these hours can be accessed over a minimum of 3 days between the hours 9am and 4pm. The entitlement is available for 38 weeks a year.
For 3 year olds, this entitlement starts from the term after the child’s 3rd birthday. Please see below the matrix of school terms to assist in working out the eligibility of a child.

Parents / carers do not contribute towards this minimum entitlement but may be charged fees for any services or childcare that is additional to the free Early Education place.
