The ACE Development Team works alongside Wigan's three Key Stage 4 Pupil Support Centres and arranges, monitors and supports alternative packages of education for all Key Stage 4 pupils attending each Pupil Support Cenre. Normally Year 10 students will access two days provision with ACE and three days provision at the Pupil Support Centre and Year 11 students will access three days provision with ACE and two days provision at the Pupil Support Centre.
The team also offers this provision to schools who wish to purchase an Alternative Package as an alternative to permanent exclusion or further disaffection. The level of support can range from one day a week to five days a week.
The support involves motivational interviewing and assessment, personal / emotional support and support to parents / carers and families.
All pupils who are referred for Key Stage 4 provision will initially attend the ACE Centre for a maximum of 3 days over a 2 week induction / assessment period. The programme could include, work experience, motor vehicle training, construction training, scooter restoration, Funcional Skills, personal and social development, hair and beauty, catering, IT, fire service, health and fitness and music / media. These opportunties can be provided by members of the ACE Development Team or outside providers and will always meet stringent guidelines set by the government.
All pupils who access an alternative package of education through ACE will have the opportunity to gain qualifications and certificates to build up an impressive Progress File and move onto further education, employment and / or training post 16. All qualifications will fall under the Foundation Tier Learning.
Throughout pupils will also receive regular support from an ACE Social Worker, an ACE Youth Worker and a Connexions Personal Advisor.
