To plan, implement, support, monitor, review and evaluate out of school learning opportunities accessed by KS4 students who are on the roll of the Summit Centre (KS4 Pupil Referral Unit) or local schools. These may include extended work experience placements with training providers and attendance at Wigan and Leigh College to access a range of academic and vocational courses.
The ACE social work team works alongside the KS4 Pupil Referral Unit and arranges, monitors and supports alternative packages of education for all KS4 pupils attending the PRU.
The team can also offer this provision to schools who wish to purchase an Alternative Package as an alternative to exclusion.
The support involves motivational interviewing and assessment, personal / emotional support and support to parents / carers and families. If a pupil were to return to school from the KS4 Pupil Referral Unit, the team could support their reintegration.
All pupils who are referred for this provision will initially attend ACE for a maximum of 3 days over a four week induction / assessment period. Following this induction / assessment pupils will be placed on a programme suitable to their needs and abilities. The programme could include, work experience, motor vehicle training at Fix It, construction training at Fix IT, construction training at Central Sports, Scooter restoration at Class Restorations, Basic Skills at Rathbone Training, personal and social development at Breakthrough or vocational training at Wigan and Leigh college.
All pupils who access an alternative package of education through ACE will have the opportunity to gain qualifications and certificates to build up an impressive Record of Achievement.
All pupils will also receive regular support from an ACE Social Worker, an ACE Youth Worker and a Connexions Personal Advisor.
