The service provides information, advice and guidance to adults aged 20 and over, on any issue relating to learning and work. The service is free, impartial and confidential. Whether you want to improve your career prospects, get a qualification or just make the most of your job, the service can help you identify your goals and support you to make realistic choices.
The service can help you to get back into learning, develop your skills and improve your career prospects. Staff can (subject to availability):
- give advice on ways to search for and apply for jobs, e.g. writing a CV, interview skills;
- help link your personal interests and skills to your job or career needs;
- give advice on ways to progress in a career;
- identify the skills you may need and refer you to other sources of support (if necessary) to help you to improve your reading, writing and maths skills;
- refer you to other support available;
- help you use decision-making tools;
- help you understand the job market;
- give advice about financial support available;
- give advice about services available during redundancy, including how to access services;
- give advice about what is and is not available, and discuss alternatives.
The staff team have extensive experience of dealing with people with a range of needs, many of whom have multiple barriers to overcome and complex needs to address.
The service is also the primary deliverer of Nextstep information, advice and guidance services, skills coaching, and a range of other advice, information and guidances services across the borough.
