Welcome to our new website. We’re sure you’ll have already noticed there’s a new look to the site… and we’ve made some important changes as well.
We hope you will find this site easier to use. It’s been redesigned with the aim of having a more helpful layout. We think you’ll find it more accessible, as well as a valuable source of information about the council and our range of online services.
So what’s changed?
New web and email addresses
For a start, the site will have a new web address: http://www.wigan.gov.uk/ (It used to be www.wiganmbc.gov.uk but we’ve dropped the mbc bit, so if this site is in your favourites you might want to change the details).
If you have email contacts for anyone at the council, these have also changed and in future will simply be (for example) pr@wigan.gov.uk
A more user friendly site
The next thing you might notice is the home page has a more helpful layout, including a direct services search available simply by clicking on the A-Z of services.
Pages are organised by service areas rather than being based on the council's internal structure, which is not something we’d expect most people to know or care about!
The site now has a help page to help people use the site.
The site will have a more consistent look. Whatever page you’re using it will feel part and parcel of the same site.
A more accessible site
It will also be more accessible, making it easier to use for people with disabilities. For example, you can increase the size of the text simply by clicking on the buttons at the top of the home page.
We have also introduced a high contrast large text option for people with poor eyesight.
Access key shortcuts have been provided to make it easier to navigate to some of the main pages without using a mouse.
Up to the minute council news
All content on the site is being continually reviewed to ensure it is accurate and up-to-date. We will also be including up to the minute council news that will change regularly, and a selection of current events taking place across the borough
Tell us what you think
We hope you will tell us what you think of the new site, whether it’s good, bad or indifferent.
We’d especially like to know:
- if there’s anything you’d like to see included about council services that isn’t currently available
- the quality of the content
- what you think of the accessibility options
- how easily you’ve been able to find the information you were looking for
