Wigan is rated as a four star council
Every year councils across the country are assessed on how well they perform. This is a rigorous, independent assessment by the audit commission. Each council is given a star rating from 0 stars to 4 stars. We are amongst only 34% of councils that are currently rated 4 stars. Our latest assessment is for 2007 and we achieved the highest overall rating of 4 stars. We will receive our final CPA assessment in 2008 (published early 2009). The assessment framework will then change to Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) using a joint inspectorate assessment of the quality of life for people living in our area. We will post updates on this process as they become available.
The overall assessment is made up of a detailed inspection carried out every four years, called a corporate assessment and annually updated service assessments. These included how well we have achieved against the governments performance indicators and other inspections.
