Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your bill. We offer customer's a choice of five dates each month when they can pay. These are the 1st, 6th, 15th, 21st and 27th. You can also ask to pay over 12 months instead of 10, or however many months remain in the year.
You are also protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee, which promises that you will get your money back straight away if anything goes wrong.

Business Rates
Direct Debit

To set up a direct debit fill in the form on the back of your bill and send it to us at the address below. We are not yet able to set up Direct Debits for Business Rates over the phone but we are working towards it.

Internet
You can now pay most council bills on-line with a debit or credit card, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Telephone
You can pay your bill by credit or debit card 24 hours a day by phoning the automated bill payment hotline number 01942 489006. Have your card and reference number ready when you call. Payments cannot be made with American Express cards.
Telephone and online banking or standing order
To pay your bill via telephone or online banking, or by standing order with your bank you will need our bank details:
- Our bank account number is: 61250035
- Our sort code is: 08 90 58
- You must quote your 12 digit billing reference shown on the front of your bill as the reference for your payment.
Post
Make cheques payable to Wigan Council and post it to Citizen Support Services, Wigan Council, PO Box 100, Wigan. WN1 3DS
Cheques should be crossed 'A/C Payee' and please write your account number and the type of bill you are paying on the back of the cheque. If you need a receipt you must enclose your bill and a stamped addressed envelope. We cannot accept cheques that are post-dated.
Post Office and Paypoint
You can pay most council bills by cash, debit card or credit card at any Post Office or by cash at any Paypoint outlet nationwide. You will need a bill with a barcode on it to pay. If you already have one of these simply take it along and make the payment.
Chip and Pin
You can also pay most council bills with a debit or credit card using Chip and Pin machines at Wigan Life Centre. From 2 April 2012 you will also be able to pay using Chip and Pin at Leigh Life Centre. Other Life Centres will also be getting Chip and Pin machines soon.
Please note you will not be able to pay your Council Tax by cash at any of our offices. Please use your local Post Office or Paypoint outlet to pay by cash.
