Paying the Council Tax

There are many different ways to pay.

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your bill. All you have to do is complete one form and the bank will pay your bill when it is due. You can pay by Direct Debit for:

Internet

You can now pay most council bills on-line with a debit or credit card, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Telephone

You can pay your bill by credit or debit card 24 hours a day by phoning our freephone automated bill payment hotline number 0800 1695878. Have your card and reference number ready when you call. Payments cannot be made with American Express cards.

Post

Send a cheque payable to WIGAN MBC to Council Tax Offices, Moore Street East, Whelley, Wigan. WN1 3DS

Cheques should be crossed 'A/C Payee' and please write your account number and the type of bill you are paying on the back of the cheque. If you need a receipt you must enclose your bill and a stamped addressed envelope. We cannot accept cheques that are post-dated.

Post Office and Paypoint

You can pay most council bills at any Post Office or Paypoint shop. You will need a bill with a barcode on it to pay. If you already have one of these simply take it along and make the payment.

At the council's offices

Bills can be paid at the council's payment offices at the Civic Centre, Millgate, Wigan and the Town Hall in Leigh. Opening times are 8:45 to 16:30 Monday to Friday.
