We work in partnership with other organisations and groups to co-ordinate and jointly plan community care services, and to support people who misuse substances such as drugs and alcohol, and people who are living with or affected by HIV and AIDS.
The kind of support we can arrange includes: day care in day centres, home care, a community alarm service, meals-on-wheels, occupational therapy, mental health services, short breaks (respite), supported employment, supported accommodation, equipment to help with sensory loss or physical disabilities, and much more.
Our headquarters are at Civic Centre, Millgate, Wigan, but we also have a number of smaller area offices throughout the borough at Aspull, Golborne, Leigh, Tyldesley and Worsley Hall.
Head of the department is Bernard Walker, Director of Adult Services. The Department has been structured around the two strands of Personalisation and Community Services and Strategy and Commissioning - view Adult Services Structure (.pdf, 104KB).
To access adult social care services, you need to have an assessment of your care needs. The assessment helps us to decide whether or not you are eligible to receive services. We use Department of Health guidance 'Fair Access to Care Services' to work out eligibility.
