Following major structural work on the pool, the leisure centre now also boasts a modern reception area, improved lighting and new disabled facilities.
A family friendly changing village – with single, family and group changing cubicles – has also been introduced.
And a contemporary makeover has ensured the building, which originally opened in 1977, has been transformed into a “fresher, brighter and lighter” place to exercise.
Denise Grundy is Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust’s senior duty manager at the centre.
She said: “The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It looks great and we’re very pleased and proud of what’s been achieved.
“It looks fresher, brighter and lighter and while much of the structural work won’t be noticed by the public the work has ensured future generations will be able to enjoy and reap the health benefits at this wonderful facility.”
Wigan was awarded a £700,000 grant for the redevelopment from Sport England because of its pioneering work introducing free swimming in Wigan Borough.
