The Vikings are invading Gin Pit in Tyldesley on 8 August as part of village’s always popular fete. The event starts at 1pm and admission is free. As well as stalls, entertainment for children and food, a full Norse battle will be re-enacted on the village green. “Æpa heróp!”
Atherton’s Formby Hall is the place for sequence, ballroom, line and rock’n’roll this summer. The National Council for the Divorced, Separated and Widowed have dances planned for the over 45s from 8pm on July 2, August 6 and September 3. Golborne All Saints Nursery is working with the council’s school meals provider, MetroFresh, to encourage healthy eating and cutlery skills. Nursery manager Sandra Russell says: “It’s wonderful to welcome our youngest pupils to the dinner table. MetroFresh have been an incredible help, and we now have 18 out of our 30 children opting for a nutritional meal as they enter full time school.”
Partners and communities came together for a recent fun day in Marsh Green. Over 500 people, plus council neighbourhood teams, police, housing officers, the PCT and fire officers, joined forces to look at local concerns right at ground level.

Improvement works on Pemberton’s Kitt Green Road have been planned for the school summer holidays to minimise disruption.
Traffic will be diverted for essential resurfacing from 19 July for six weeks. Before the road is resurfaced, some gas infrastructure will be upgraded (in May and June).
There will be a weight limit on Kitt Green Road to stop larger vehicles using it during the works, and local diversion signs will be posted.
Leigh Sports Village is the place to be on Saturday 26 June for the borough’s annual Armed Forces Day.
Attractions include a working full-scale replica Spitfire, battle re-enactments, shooting displays, a mini-fun fair and much more.

Town Green Athletic, of Billinge, whose players include girls and boys under 14, have been awarded FA Charter Status.
The charter recognises that Town Green is a well run, sustainable club where child protection and safety are paramount.
They train on the John Eddleston playing fields in summer, and in winter at Golborne High, St Edmund Arrowsmith High and Byrchall High Schools, usually on Sunday mornings.
