Working Hard at Play

Working hard at play to ensure more children can enjoy first class facilities
Pennington Hall Park
Ten-year-old Alice Rowbotham tries out the new playground at Pennington Hall Park in Leigh.

All work and no play may make Jack a dull boy but here in Wigan we’re working hard at play.

More than a quarter of all council play areas are being transformed after the borough’s play partnership secured a £2m funding windfall through the government’s Play Pathfinder programme last year.

Some of the results are already being enjoyed by youngsters across the borough. When this issue of Borough Life drops onto your doorstep new play areas will have been installed in:

  • Legh Street, Golborne
  • Pennington Hall Park, Leigh
  • St Aidan’s, Winstanley
  • Jubilee Park, Ashton
  • Astley Street, Tyldesley
  • Ellesmere Street, Astley
  • Three Sisters, Bryn
  • Platt Lane, Whelley
  • Cale Lane, New Springs
  • William Fosters, Ince
  • Abram Park, Abram
  • Marsh Green Teen-meet
  • Oaklands, Lowton
  • Norley Hall Adventure Playground

This coming year will see more improvements to play areas, bringing the total refurbished to 28.
