Trader Scheme stops the Cowboys

A pioneering council scheme for getting decent work done on your home has celebrated its first birthday.

The good trader scheme offers a list of honest and reliable firms that you can use to make sure that you get the right person for the job.

Over 600 people have used the service to find a trustworthy trader - and now the scheme has welcomed its 100th local business, Plan-it Construction Limited.

The Wigan building and design firm says it wants to tackle head on the stigma associated with ‘cowboy builders’. Managing director Simon Lewis said: “We want choosing a builder to be a happy experience for our clients.”

Traders on the website are not approved by the council but are star-rated by their customers.

Cabinet member for licensing Cllr Paul Prescott said: “There’s a bewildering choice when you need work done at home. By registering with the good trader website, firms are assessed honestly by their customers and people can make an informed choice.”

The council is always looking to include more good traders so if there’s someone you’d like to suggest contact Yogi, Helene or Lynn on 01942 827476.
