For the council, the customer is king and that’s why it’s making the service provided to members of the public even better.
Many people will be aware of the exciting Life Centre development in Wigan town centre, which will provide a 21st century contact point not just for the council, but other organisations such as the health service.
Well it doesn’t end in Wigan because the council is bringing new ‘Life’ to townships across the borough in the shape of brand new customer service centres.
The first to open was in Marsh Green and it’s already proving to be a big hit with the community. It was followed closely by Leigh’s Life Centre based at Leigh Town Hall.
Gone are the cash offices – they’ve been moved to another part of the building – and in their place on the ground floor is a brand new information ‘hub’ where customers can get quick answers about a wide range of council and other public services.
Wigan Council’s cabinet champion for customer service, Cllr Chris Ready, says: “The local Life Centres offer a one-stop shop for all public services.
“The council works for all the people of the borough and we’re committed to improving our customer service to make sure people get exactly what they need.”
The first thing you’ll notice when you visit the Leigh Life Centre is the bright, fresh design. There is a new reception area with trained staff on hand to help.
There are one-to-one enquiry desks, computer terminals for internet use, a free-to-use ‘hot phone’ and two meeting rooms for local groups. On top of this there will be a staffed health information desk managed by NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan.
