Coming soon…play for today

A massive investment in play facilities for the borough’s children is heading our way. The council has won £2 million of government money to develop 28 public play areas across the borough in the next two years, including one large adventure playground.

Half the new play areas will be developed in the next 12 months with the remainder to follow next year.

A decision on where to base the adventure playground, which will be similar to one in Norley, has yet to be finalised. As well as the money to build the play areas the council has also been awarded nearly half a million pounds for staffing and running costs.

Cabinet champion for culture, Cllr Brian Baldwin, said: “This will be the largest investment in play for our borough for many years.

“It will plug some of the gaps in provision in many of our more deprived communities and particularly address the needs of children with disabilities.”
