Susan Crook, pictured right, has got what it takes. After responding to an advert for passenger assistants, she’s now a popular and familiar face with the council’s adult services team helping elderly people get around.
“I just love to help,” says Susan. She’s already a dinner lady at her local school in Hindley, but was up for a further challenge.
“I get a lot of job satisfaction and am proud to do my bit.”
Since starting, Susan has taken an NVQ2 in road passenger transport, and completed manual handling and wheelchair manoeuvring courses. “I’ve had good support” she adds. “I’d recommend it to anyone with a caring nature who wants not just to help, but really enable people to achieve as much independence as they can.”
The council has now started a promotional campaign with messages on the vehicles themselves to attract more local people.
